What Are Your Bars Made Out Of?
With the population I work with, the bars that keep them imprisoned–metaphorically and sometimes, literally–are easy to identify.
Poverty. Crime. Family breakdown. Lack of education.
But as I chilled with some of the creatives in the spiritual arena the last couple days, it reminded me, we’ve all got bars that prevent us from doing the things we need to do, going the places we need to go, being the people we need to be.
The #1 bar I heard this class identify was COLD. HARD. CASH.
Lots and lots of people need to raise capital to move their vision beyond Square 1. They are weighed down by the dollar sign. (They want to invest more time in their dreams, but they are also the picky types who want their children to eat. :)
But, it got me thinking, that maybe some of us could find our way around the money part…to push through the financial risks…if we suspended the cashflow worries long enough to see the things that prevent us from going “all in” trying to find the money.
Things like:
Fear of failure (we could also call it pride)
Past disapointments.
Lack of support.
Deficient skill sets.
Difficulty trusting.
If I claim to have a dream, then I guess I better start thinking about the answer to this question: What are my bars made out of?
