People to Meet & Things to Do

Sometimes the people-lover in me breaks down and HAS to share some of the great stuff the people I love are up to these days. Here’s a few…

  • For starters, STORY is doing a Dream Year Weekend in D.C. June 3-5. This event is a fast-track version of regular Dream Year that helps attenders execute a dream in just 12 months.
  • (If you’re a leader in the DC area and can make it out to the event, drop me a line on Facebook or Twitter. We’d love to meetup while we’re there.)
  • Ashley just launched a new People of the Second Chance initiative called the Grace Mob. The idea is to mob people who’ve experienced harm and hate with messages of love. I’m in. Come join us.
  • Jim Kropp, who taught one of the best photography classes I’ve ever taken at the Chicago Photography Center and who teaches TV production at the Connecticut School of Broadcasting released a great photography book, Capturing beauty with your camera. If you’ve been looking for some easy tips for better photos, this one is calling your name.
  • Katie who is on the team that puts on the STORY conference in September launched No More Dirty Work this month.  Her business will take on project management tasks that you don’t have time to do. Katie’s a detail girl with a pleasant demeanor. Take it from me. You can’t.NOT.love.her.
  • Andy, who blogs at Jacksonopolis, dreams with me toward a better Jackson brought about by a better show of faith.
  • Next month, he invited me to take a couple Sundays to share some ideas on living out faith in community at our church. What Rivertree will be doing in experimenting with outreach in our community is something you and your church can join in on. So drop us a note if you want more info.
  • Longtime buddy, Ed Love, and his gorgeous wife Emily are starting a new church. Again. Their last planting project resulted in Epic Community Church, a great community housed in a rehabbed shopping mall in Portland, Michigan. If you’re in for a Michigan church plant, look up these two.
  • Did I mention I’ve had the pleasure of taking a few looks at Ed’s book proposal in the works? Keep an eye on this guy, Michigan.
  • Last but not least, I’ll be part of the volunteer team helping to put on the Maker Faire in July. The photo at the top of this post is a clever kinetic art installation that lets the viewer become part of the exhibit (see the vid).  It debuted at a previous Maker Faire. So come on Detroit. Stop in. Grab a coffee with me. Let’s connect.
