Get to Know Someone (Google App)
My posts tend to straddle the fields of creativity and collaboration. So I’m always on the lookout for ways to boost those components of my life.
While I prefer (prefer being a colossal understatement) live, in-person contact, I stumbled into a Gmail app this week that easily added a little more personality to my email exchanges.
It’s called Rapportive. Once you download the app, it connects to your social networks–all in less than 2 minutes.
Then, when you open an email from someone, Rapportive pops into your sidebar and lets you see their pics, Linked In title, Facebook stuff and tweets.
Practical value for a non-techie like myself? The sidebar info helps you realize when you’re talking to someone who has some like-mindedness or mutual connections. It may remind you if you’re already connected to this person in some other online network. And it may clue you in that you’d like to be connected.
It’s not intrusive so it doesn’t interrupt your work flow and you can absolutely choose to ignore it.
If you have a Gmail account and are also involved in Facebook, Twitter and/or Linked In, I recommend giving it a spin. :) It’s a good way to get to know the people you’re emailing.

Thanks for the post. I’ll check it out. Now if only I could use Gmail at work. Alas, we’re still using MS Exchange.

Haha. Me too @Matt. MS Outlook stuff is archaic in comparison, isn’t it? :)
