• This writer has researched the real people who inspired 350 famous literary characters. First surprise: the Godfather? The character was inspired by a woman.
• Well that explains a lot.
• I love hand written letters. Still. But I was surprised that if you’re desperate for them, you can sign up to receive some for $5 a month.
• I’ll be sending bills to everyone I’ve set hand-written notes to this year.
• In sad news, Jan Berenstain, creator of the Berenstain Bears, passed away this week. If they were part of your childhood, you may want to listen to an interview with her son here.
• Along those lines, Stephen Colbert really is writing a children’s book? He started out by joking, but now apparently is being urged forward by public demand.
• America.
• And this inmate is writing a how to on raising aggressive dogs from his cell block. He’s an expert because one of his dogs killed someone. Ahhhh. The worthwhile literature produced by free countries.
• J.K. Rowling is venturing into adult literature, Justin Bieber is releasing a second book and a Sarah Palin tell all got sued for publishing confidential info. I refuse to link these, though I will wonder: did anyone want a tell all about Palin? I’m thinking a “tell some” or “tell a little” would’ve been adequate.
• If my doctor told me I had only six minutes to live, I wouldn’t brood. I’d type a little faster. -Isaac Asimov
