Family Christmas Giveaway: The Donkey In the Living Room
Christmas Toy Giveaway
Holy smokes. You guys. I am SO grateful for the support swelling around Donkey In the Living Room this last couple months.
It’s hard to describe the wonder I feel when I think about what’s happened so far with this project.
The short recap: This children’s Christmas book, which I first self-published in 2012, helps families begin a tradition that celebrates the true meaning of Christmas. (Each night leading up to Christ’s birth, parents and kids use the book to follow the story of a new manger scene figure.) In 2013, many of you know, the project got a serious, full-color, beautifully illustrated facelift via a new hard cover book and matching nativity play set. [Read the whole story here.]
So far this season, the boxed toy set is finding an especially perfect fit with parents (and grandparents) across the country who are looking to extend Christmas beyond an 18-second wrapping paper removal exercise.;) While first reports are bright (it’s sold out of several conferences and Amazon), what really strikes close to my heart is listening to parents and grandparents talk about why they are purchasing them. They truly want to break away from a retailer-dominated celebration and infuse a little more faith and family time into Christmas this year. But, many of them say, they haven’t always known how or where to start.
When I spend even five seconds imagining their kids and grandkids–and other kids across the country–sitting on their relatives’ laps and reading together about Jesus for 10 days this year, my heart lights up like I am five-years-old again. The Donkey In the Living Room has outgrown my initial aims. It’s become a gift–not just to my readers or their kids–but TO ME as the author. I couldn’t be more grateful for this chance to watch and hear stories and share a small part of helping people across the country spend quality time with their kids.
And here’s the bonus.
To celebrate the remake and launch of this book, my publisher (B&H Kids) has graciously agreed to give away 3 Nativity Toy Sets and 10 books to blog readers and online supporters like you.
There are two ways to enter:
1. Leave a comment on this blog post and tell me which little loved ones–in your family, in your circle of friends, in your church etc.–you are entering in the giveaway. (You may enter once per child so feel free to leave several comments.)
2. You can post a link to this contest on social media using the hashtag #ChristmasDonkey. You may enter via social media twice per day on each social media outlet (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram).
We’ll draw all the names at random this Friday and announce them on the blog Saturday morning (also known as 33 days ’til Christmas).
In the meantime (or later on), if you’d like to pick up your own Donkey toy set for your kids, nieces and nephews, or grandkids, even though Amazon is currently sold out, you can also purchase them at your local Christian bookstore and most major online retailers such as Lifeway, Barnes and Noble, and ChristianBook.Com. You can also pick up the book by itself–minus the toy–at Target.Com or Walmart.com. [UPDATE: Amazon has re-ordered and should have more in stock soon.]
I wish you and your family the merriest of Christmases both this year and for many Christmases to come.
Sarah

Sarah, I love this book and can’t wait to get my hands on a few. We have a big box of Christmas books that we read every night once December started. Even now as my kids have moved into their teens and twenties, we still occasionally snuggle up on the couch and read ‘Who’s Coming to Our House?” or “Auntie Claus”. I am planning on buying this for my sweet niece (9 months), Juliana and nephew(3), Denver, to add to their family’s Christmas traditions.
Sheila Ritchie November 18, 2014 (10:06 pm)
Sarah, I don’t want to be redundant, but do want to increase my odds and share about some of the special little ones in my life. I also want to give these to my great-nephews and niece, Riley(7), Jax (5), Keagan (3) and Paxleigh(18months). I want to share with them the things I love about these books: reading, faith, Christmas traditions and Jesus. Can’t wait!
