How did Blue Like Jazz do opening weekend in theaters?
Since writing Friday’s post about Blue Like Jazz in the box office, I’ve received a few questions from people wanting to know the results of opening weekend. Read my interview with Don and other related Blue Like Jazz posts here.
Blue Like Jazz ticket sales top $250,000
The opening weekend numbers are in. The domestic earnings were $258,653 in sales, taken from 136 theaters in select cities averaging around $1,900 each.
The movie also received some good reviews from some notable media outlets. Read a sample of their comments below.

“…gets the atmosphere of intellectual curiosity mixed with know-it-allness just right…It’s a story that needs to be told”
-Washington Post
“Sincere and literary…” –New York Times
“This is a rare bird, a sincere movie about Christian faith.” =New York Post
“It tackles existential struggles that many of us grapple with – and the film industry virtually ignores – while doing so in an entertaining way…never boring.” –San Francisco Chronicle

The more I read your blog posts about the movie and about Donald Miller, the crazier I get waiting for Blue Like Jazz to come to Ohio. I’m impressed and astounded by the dedication he, Steve Taylor and the crew have had for this project, and the incredible way it all came about.
And, on a side note, after stumbling on your blog and realizing that we’re Facebook friends, I perused your site for awhile, and I have to say that I’m eager for the day we get to meet and talk writerly things. I love your writing style!

I love the book, it’s one of my all time favorites. I have given so many away. We contributed to the movie, have the poster waiting for a frame to hang in our family room. So sad that the movie isn’t coming anywhere close to where we live but I hope to see it at some point and hope it makes lots of money. More importantly spreads such a beautiful message of faith. Thanks for the updates.
