Human/Not Human
I have this belief, it’s a deeply held conviction really, that humans were designed for connection.
This belief works my soul over DAILY.
When I read a story about someone diving into ice cold water to rescue a stranger?
This belief hums inside of me.
YES! That’s the kind of connection humans are intended to have.
That example, that act, that sacrifice is sooo HUMAN.
When I read a story about a mom pimping her daughter out online?
This belief aches inside of me.
That NO! That kind of disconnect goes against how life was intended to be.
That numbness, that selfishness, that deadness is sooo NOT HUMAN.
There are so many things–both good and bad–that fire up my human radar, I might have to make a regular column of this one.
But here’s a start:
A 69.9% one-year increase in sales of products made by people? HUMAN.
Paying people to bag up fetuses and storing them in a temple? NOT HUMAN.
Getting your car washed because some teenager in an ape suit is frantically begging every driver to turn in? HUMAN.
Trying to use kids as human shields, getting caught and then only getting probation? DOUBLE NOT HUMAN.
Knowing that a computer could do this (below), but thinking it’s WAYYYY cooler to see a person do it? TOTALLY AND BEAUTIFULLY HUMAN.
