Attention to Detail: Brad Lomenick and Tim Soerens
Off stage
Last week, I started a new series that looks to learn from the everyday lives of influential people. To start, we heard about what pastor and blogger Ron Edmondson and notable writer Cathleen Falsani are reading, listening to and doing these days.
Today I bring you Brad Lomenick and Tim Soerens. Thanks to both of them for participating.

Sarah: So in between running conferences and writing books, what are you reading, Brad? (Here’s his new book, by the way–>Catalyst Leader)
Brad: Fast Company, TED, and Mashable.
Sarah: Nice. And two of those are free too. What’s else has got your attention? What are you listening to?
Brad: The Catalyst Podcast, The Lone Bellow, and the Passion Live album.
Sarah: Okay. And what’s on your TV screen these days?
Brad: Duck Dynasty, Modern Family, Parks and Recreation, and The Voice.
Sarah: What about on the days when you get away from home? Where are you headed?
Brad: Catalyst events, Dallas, London, LA, and Montreal.
Sarah: London? Love London. Let’s change the subject before I melt with envy. If we ducked into Brad Lomenick’s life some random day, who might we find you with?
Brad: Tripp Crosby, Tyler Stanton, Carlos Whittaker, and Chris Seay.
Sarah: And finally, if we stopped in your kitchen, what might we find you cooking?
Brad: Taco Soup, Nachos, Turkey sandwiches, or BBQ chicken.
Brad Lomenick has spent the last 10 years as president and lead visionary of Catalyst. He recently released his book, Catalyst Leader, which captures the essentials of leading well and becoming a change maker. Get the book here.
Tim Soerens
Sarah: What about you, Tim? What are you reading away from conferences and daily work?
Tim: Salvation Means Creation Healed by Howard Snyder, Future Perfect by Steven Johnson, and The Land by Walter Brueggemann. I just finished Where’d You Go Bernadette a hilarious novel by Maria Semple.
Sarah: Nice! Walter Brueggemann gave one of the most memorable talks I’ve ever seen. What about what are you listening to?
Tim: Seattle’s own Macklemore gets an awful lot of play in our house, especially “Can’t Hold Us” and “My Oh My” as requests from my 2 year old. Other Seattle bands I love are Pickwick and The Head and the Heart. The Lumineers are solid and have gotten into The XX lately.
Sarah: Anyone who takes song requests from a two year old is okay in my book. What are you watching these days?
Tim: I’m sort of a political drama junkie. My wife and I watched House of Cards in an embarrassing amount of time. I loved Homeland, and Scandal as well, and watch my fair share of The Daily Show.
Sarah: And what about when you get away from home? Where would we find you going?
Tim: My wife is working on a PhD that takes us to Oxford for about a month a year which will be this May. While in the UK I’ll be connecting with ministry leaders in Oxford, London, Edinburgh, and Birmingham. On the end of the trip we’re going to Paris for a few nights, I’m really excited for that.
Sarah: Paris! You and Brad are subliminally trying to get me to go to Europe, aren’t you? What about who are you usually with?
Tim: My wife Maria-Jose is an amazing women. I’m growing in gratitude each passing year that we get to live our lives together. I’d also say that Paul Sparks, who leads the Parish Collective with me is one of the finest leaders I’ve ever encountered. It’s an incredible privilege and honor to get to work with him just about everyday.
Sarah: Last question. What are you cooking these days?
Tim: I’m not a very creative cook, but I sure do appreciate those who are.
Tim is the co-founding director of the Parish Collective, the Curator of the Inhabit Conference and the author of a forthcoming book from IVP.
