Can You See the Pattern?
People, buses, subways, taxis…they all spin around city streets as if they’re part of a high-speed wind up toy.
And yet at the exact same time, some elements–majestic bridges, buildings, staircases–stand in strong lines, unmoved by the chaos cycling around them.
This past weekend during the break in my film class, I popped out and snapped a couple pics of this paradox.
They remind me that we live on a busy, over-stimulated planet.
And that we–the visionaries, the writers, the artists, the craftsmen–sometimes have to strip back the buzz and come in tightly on a pattern.
Sketch in some straight lines in the midst of crooked ones.
Because with our crafts, we bring this same balance to our world: to suggest, in the midst of mayhem, that there is meaning and beauty to be found.
