If I Had a Wednesday Morning Rundown (Part 1)

I know I’m not cool enough to have a Wednesday morning rundown, but if I was, here is what it would look like:

  • Spent the ungodly hour of 6 a.m. whipping up pancakes for a classically impatient 18 month old. Even though it only takes 20 seconds, he has a hard time not developing a starving complex while he waits.
  • It does not matter that I have never failed to give him the pancakes, in case you were wondering. Today still seems like it could be the first day I hold out on him.
  • Turned down three different offers of hot cheetos during my first hour class—which begins at 7:30 a.m. Hmmmm. Hope I made the right choice.
  • Wrote an awkward letter to a doctor at the Family Health Center, politely asking if there was any way they could put my student—who has been dragging around here looking like death about to give birth—on some sort of leave of absence for the last few weeks of her pregnancy.  Schools need a doctor’s note to put students on homebound, but students rarely even know that something like a medical leave exists.
  • Broke away from my political-detachments to place a sign in my yard promoting two candidates for school board—both are former teachers and grass roots activists of sorts, one is a local pastor’s wife who is probably too liberal for many in my childhood circles.
  • I decided a long time ago* that people’s vote is secondary to me if their faith in Jesus moves them to care about the poor, orphaned and widowed. Before anyone gets too frenzied by that statement, please refer to what the Bible says is true religion. Then send your hatemail to God.
  • Also it’s a known fact that a lot of people vote the right way and don’t give a crap.
  • (*I think it was sometime around age seven while watching the original black and white version of Boys Town starring Mickey Rooney. It was filmed in 1938 but I still love it like it’s in theaters now.)
  • Did I mention I also know all the words to all the songs on Newsies? So do my two best friends and so do my brothers, even though they might not care to admit it. If you don’t, it might be time for you to open the door and cease the day.
  • Passed out school picture forms. The big discussion that resulted was which outfits students were going to dress their babies in when they brought them in to be in their school photos.

To be continued…

Great Wednesday morning rundown! Think Ben now has competition :)

Love and agree with this … “I decided a long time ago* that people’s vote is secondary to me if their faith in Jesus moves them to care about the poor, orphaned and widowed. Before anyone gets too frenzied by that statement, please refer to what the Bible says is true religion. Then send your hatemail to God.”
