Michigan Summers
This week is devoted to basking in the Michigan summer.
Picture lakeside cottages with tiered decks, pontoons and kayaks gliding over sparkling water, and lots of experimental fireside treats (smores are just the beginning, people).
There are also three screaming toddlers who have to be peeled in and out of soggy clothing and swimsuits on an hourly basis. But don’t picture that.
Hope you can get out and enjoy a piece of your own summer today too! =)

I grew up going to Michigan for at least a week during the summer time. My mom is from there. We always went to Otsego Lake in Gaylord. I LOVED it! My grandparents had a cottage on the lake and it was always a great time! I truly miss not being able to go there anymore.

Last weekend at Duck Lake (north of Albion). At my desk, but missing the back deck and the sounds of kids splashing.

Love the picture, love the post. I’m mostly enjoying the very unique personality of summer too – though a Missouri one. For me it’s best exemplified by how late my 5-yo sleeps in! I get up to begin my work day, and he’s still snoozing away (usually on a pallet on my floor), and I smile because we live so big that we’re totally wearing him out. My summer is definitely lacking in campfires and smores however. What a beautiful added touch! Does it get pretty cool at night?

That seems really nice. Houston summers = swarms of mosquitoes that carry your children away, a giant outdoor sauna, and relief from drought appearing in the form of occasional hurricanes. I really do hope to live somewhere with enjoyable summers someday, but for now, I cope by making lots of fresh squeezed lemonade and sweet tea, accompanied by watermelon, or grilled burgers and baked beans.

@becky sounds awesome. I’ve never been to Gaylord, but actually looked at a cabin online there today!
@doug they should sell soundtracks of kids playing in the water
@serenity Oooh. I have yet to experience Missouri summers. And I have yet to experience a child who sleeps in. Two things to look forward to.
@chris i can relate. people say mosquitoes are the michigan state bird. :)
