Remembering Friendship

A couple weeks back, Facebook introduced it’s new “friendship pages”.

The pages are digital scrapbooks of sorts. They “tell the story of a friendship” by preserving all the “memories”–public wall posts, photos and comments–between two friends.

I’ll admit, I was skeptical when I first heard about the feature.

But since then, I’ve decided it might be a sweet thing–every once in a while–to stroll down friend-to-friend memory lane.

Take the screenshot below of my friendship with my sister-in-law, Melissa. It made me smile to see the photos of us at a baby shower alongside pics of that “baby” (now 19 months old) walking hand-in-hand with her daughter.

What I really like about the friendship page, though, is not the digital trail of online interactions.

It’s that this feature does something I think we should all do more of in real life: it celebrates and remembers the evolution of friendship.
